This week the team worked on integrating the the profile of a bottle opener with the hinge and clasp design from a bag clip. While the hinge and clasp design for the bag clip was found on the thingiverse website (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:330151), the bottle opener was found on grabcad(https://grabcad.com/library/beer-bottle-opener-with-company-logo-1). The opener design was taken from grabcad to so the part could be edited in soldiworks to incorporate the hinge design yet keep the opener profile consistent.

Starting with the opener profile from the left image above, the team added material around it to incorporate the hinge and clasp design so the opener could close. It was important to add just enough material to keep the opener stiff yet small so it can fit inside a pocket when it is in the collapsed position. The hinge and clasp design were reverse engineered from the images found of the bag clip. A major design hurdle the team will face is how much tolerance is needed between moving parts to keep them from melting together and becoming unified. Another concern will be the large hole in the bottom of the opener because. While it is a necessary design because it allows closing functionality, it could make the opener flimsy. Finally, it will be important to incorporate the right amount of thickness for the clasp. Too thick and it will be too hard to bend and would inhibit the locked position. However, to thin and the clasp could easy break.
