Trebuchet Team 1 picture of the first and latest built trebuchets
To give you an idea how the changes we made effect the final Trebuchet we want to provide you with pictures of the first and second design.
The first design was printed with ABS and the settings mentioned in an earlier post. Because of the issues with ABS we decided to switch to PLA. Even if ABS has better mechanical properties the overall impression is very good.
We already mentioned the reduced build time and gave a detailed report about the changes of the single parts. Additionally we reduced our overall weight from 223.8 g to 103 g (excluding counterweight). This is a decrease from 54%. Since the materials have different densities (ABS 1.060-1.080 g cm?3; PLA 1.210–1.430 g cm?3) the weight reduction based on the different designs is between 59% and 65%. Combined with the build time reduction we think that we achieved a good result with this design.
